Mayor and Mayoress open Bridge House School

Stockport Mayor Cllr David Wilson and Deputy Mayor Councillor Linda Holt were delighted to be invited to open Bridge House School, a new therapeutic school that caters for highly functioning autistic children.

Bridge House School is an independent school catering to a maximum of 36 students, aged 11 – 18 years providing full-time education. Based in Stockport, Bridge House School places a strong emphasis on vocational courses and broadly follows the National Curriculum leading up to GCSE and Functional Skills accreditation. Along with a rich and varied curriculum, Bridge House School focuses on developing core life skills such as communication and social ability, sensory processing and emotional regulation; every pupil develops the essential capabilities they need to be as independent as possible when they leave school.

Bridge House School support children and young people to transform their lives, encouraging positive relationships with a high emphasis on life enriching opportunities and activities, and developing strategies to help them to navigate their way through life situations. Owned and run by Educ8, the schools’ aim is for students to build up self-esteem and attain nationally recognised qualifications which will provide a pathway to apprenticeships, adult employment and integration into community life.

Head Teacher of the school, Vicky Prosser, commented that “It was a real pleasure to host the Stockport Mayor and Deputy Mayor today and especially nice for him, along with our students and staff, to officially open our new facility. The school has undergone a huge investment programme and provides a great social, learning and performance space for not just our current students, but those who will join us in the future.”
